The 2022 Nissan Pathfinder offers a performance that is strong but not overwhelming. It receives its power from a 3.5-litre V6 engine that produces 284 horsepower and 259 lb-ft of torque. There is a new nine-speed automatic transmission that's equipped, according to Nissan, should provide smoother shifts than the outgoing continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT). Front-wheel drive (FWD) is the standard drivetrain on the Pathfinder, but there is an option for all-wheel drive (AWD). This AWD system comes with multiple drive modes: Mud/Rut, Snow, Sand, and Tow. This system is primarily FWD until it detects a slip.Â
Then, it engages the rear wheels. This configuration means that the Pathfinder can do some off-roading, but with 7 inches of ground clearance, it is somewhat too low to the ground for any serious off-roading adventures. As far as its performance goes, the powertrain is not noisy. The Pathfinder is virtually soundproof from engine, wind, and road noise. It might be one of the quietest cabins in its class. It can quickly get you up to speed on the highway in about 6.7 seconds, which matches what some of its top competitors can do. Overall, the ride comes off as being smooth and comfortable, making it a great daily commuter.
